On 3/26/09, Jeffrey B. Swartz, CEO of TIMBERLAND posted an article on the Huffington Post about the power of collaboration. Here's his opening paragraph:
"Collaboration is a familiar concept to anyone in the business arena; you have a problem, need a plan, your best bet is often to throw together a group of disparate but talented individuals and let their collective creative energy go to work. The reason collaboration works so well is a combination of passion and purpose; for best results, your pool should be full of people who deeply care about the issue and have a vested interest in solving it."
The wisdom of collaborating is happening in many corporations, especially those in technology, because they see the value in tapping into the accumulated experiences and the "collective creative energy" of employees. Schools have yet to understand this as they remain structured around a boss who feels she/he knows best.
